澀溫泉故鄉之宿 天川莊 (Amagawaso)

Extremely cozy ryokan at the edge of the town. Perfect place to chill for a couple of days. The dinner was magnificent and worth to skip a lunch so you can appreciate it more. Private onsen you can book at daily listing was really nice. Was not too impressed by the towns public ones in the town that you can visit with a key provided by the ryokan. Public number 9 was probably the best and it also has a sauna.

A nice little hotel run by a sweet old couple. The hotel offers a free private onsen which is located outside in a beautiful setting which you can book for 40min. The hotel also has a public onsen inside which is gender separated and where you can take a shower. The room is traditionally japanese style with a tatami mat, futon and low table. It was warm and cozy and there was plenty of space. A teapot was provided and you could make your own tea. You get slippers, a yukata per person and traditional japanese wooden shoes for outside. If you stay here you have the option of using the 9 public onsen. However, these are a short distance from the hotel away. The couple can't speak English but with a translator we were able to communicate. It was difficult to find an open restaurant in the village after 18:00. It is no problem to store your luggage in the hotel after check-out. The Snow Monkey Park was easy to reach on foot, even if it was more than 3km. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

Мы с детьми были в восторге. Очень интересно остановиться в аутентично месте. Возможно, смутит общий туалет и ванная комната, но спать на татами - прикольно. Нам понравилось. Отдельная благодарность хозяевам - радушные, гостеприемные люди. Спасибо большое!!!

Entorno maravilloso. Cerca del Snow monkey park, incluso para ir andando con niños. Nos atendió una mujer muy agradable con la que acabamos entendiéndonos a pesar de nuestras barreras con el idioma. El onsen familiar una maravilla. Estuvimos muy agusto.

I had an excellent experience at Amagawaso. When I arrived, I was greeted with sencha, warm steamed buns, and the sign-up sheet for the private onsen. Staying at Amagawaso felt cozy and familiar, like visiting family. The inn has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Even had some sakura right outside my bedroom window. The owners are so warm and kind. They made me feel right at home. Amagawaso is just a short walk from the public baths throughout Shibu Onsen and the local bus stops which take you up to Snow Monkey Park. I would certainly stay here again.

Massive snow storm occurred while we were there. It was just beautiful and we walked up to the snow monkey park in foot deep snow. This may not be the experience that all would want, but it worked great for us! Finding food and beer got a little bit tricky as our host does not provide meals and the town was pretty quiet. We made it work, and we had a really great time. The private tub is open to the sky…so soaking with your sweetheart, in the hot water, while snow falls on you is really one of the coolest things ever. 

Wonderful family-run Ryokan with cute rooms which are significantly bigger than they look on the pictures. A bit old but nice indoor and outdoor onsen within the hotel and with access to the nine public onsen in Shibu Onsen. You can also walk to Snow monkey park from here!
