The Grand is in the middle of an extensive refurbishment programme. I booked 4 room for 2 nights on each side of my daughter's graduation - which I explained to the hotel in advance, so we could have rooms close together to help with hairdressing etc. First the good - beautiful building with stunning original features within a contemporary refurbishment. Stunning public areas, easy parking (albeit the car park is v tatty). The BEST service staff - accommodated all our requests, gave my daughters free parking as a gift. Everyone was delightful, helpful and effective. The bar was superb, superb service and drinks. Breakfast was gorgeous - huge variety with quality ingredients, beautifully presented. The rooms were simple yet luxurious. V nicely appointed bathrooms, comfy bed, lovely shower products. The bad - two of us had to change rooms due to ineffective / not working aircon. Unfortunately, my room was worst with heat topping 33 degrees, even hotter when the hairdresser arrived. I GOT NO SLEEP due to the heat. My friend had already had her room changed before she arrived due to a maintenance issue but her new room had no aircon at all - worth knowing that 4 stars does not mean aircon in all rooms (only 50%) have it. After having to back up we were allocated new rooms. My friend's room was an upgraded one. Mine was not, but the aircon worked to a nearly acceptable level. That said, nothing close to the "fridge" temperature my daughter / boyfriend and her brother, enjoyed. I spoke to the manager after breakfast as I checked out. He too was charming and completely accepted my complaint. In essence, the "build" is still happening and he is reporting the snagging issues. Given dinestiv builds can be a nightmare, he did my sympathy as he is trying to coordinate this, much larger build, with people getting in the way. I would love to revisit in 6mths or so - as so much of what they are doing is fantastic - its just quite there yet...but it will be fabulous!

Was very disappointed I ask for a quite room when I book online all u can here is loud music and the main lift wasn’t working u had to use the stairs or there service lift which was horrible I booked it for the 1 day I had to check out after a few hours as it was to noisy I would not go there again😒😒😒😒😒😒

This is the most beautiful old hotel in Leicester, and I have a strong sentimental attachment to it, but it clearly makes its money through hiring the glorious ballroom out for corporate events at the expense of anyone actually staying there.  I had asked for a quiet room but was placed at the front which is already noisy due to the busy street, and then was not warned that a ridiculously, horribly loud function was taking place right below me in the hotel. It was like trying to sleep above a particularly nasty nightclub playing diabolical music. There were drunken corporate goons falling in and out of the door and I was treated very disrespectfully by the receptionist when I finally went downstairs to complain near to midnight.  Guests are clearly not important. I strongly recommend calling before you book to see if this is going to happen on the dates you choose. I was in town for an extremely important job and arrived tired and late due to being kept awake for hours.

There was no air con so the room was unbearably hot. A fan was provided which was noisy and had minimal effect. The corridor outside my room smelt like a nursing home. I didnt sample any food so can’t comment on that. Shower was Ok. I won’t be returning.

Anya from the Breakfast section was so courteous and hospitable. Very helpful. Our AC wasn’t working the first night at all, apart from that it was a lovely stay.
