This was my third time visiting kyoto and first time trying a ryokan booking since i came with family this time, and honestly, everything was as expected and beyond. Starting from the friendly greetings from all the staff members that walked past; the availability for baggage storage before and after check in/out; and the small gestures like the welcome tea during arrival and a small farewell gift upon departure and a personal send-off when walking out the door, personally, I really enjoyed the authentic local hospitality experiences that this little family ryokan provided
I only booked an entry sized room, a bit costly for some but it was worth the value. Inside, you get welcome packs like little sweets, tea set with very soothing green tea, mini fridge with all the drinks complimentary, the expected yukata set that you can use everywhere around the inn, and so on. The public onsen area was also very relaxing and authentic, with understandable instructions for those who is trying out japanese public bath culture for the first time, all the necessary amenities like towels, bottle items, and so on.
The venue is also quite convenient to bus stops and a subway line so moving around is quite decent.
The best part was the mini performances that the staff provides on some days, like a samurai poetry dance performance and the traditional tea ceremony demonstration, which most people would have to book extra elsewhere to experience them, but the way this family demonstrates felt extremely authentic and 100% recommended (honest reason enough to just book a night for the experience).
They also do a koto performance but I had to check out before I could see that too 😔 i’m sure that it must be an experience too.
All the performances include interactive sections as well for photos and videos so you get to experience all the different performances hands on as well which is amazing!
(If you want to book for all the experiences, i recommend you try from tues to fri, as some of the performances are day-specific, whilst some are daily, so if you want to get them all, take at least 3 nights starting from tuesday)
The breakfast is also a major highlight of course: classic traditional japanese style, basically like kaiseki dinner, breakfast experience. It’s mentioned that every season they change up the menus and also the weekly meals can be different based on the available ingredients for the day, so no 2 meals will every be the same! The only thing you should care for is that the kitchen is not open in Wednesdays, so keep that in mind when you set dates.
Last but not least, and this is what i want to point the most, is the amazing above and beyond experience from the okami-san, Akemi-san, who not only provided an amazing tea ceremony demonstration, but also gave an unexpected surprise during check out with a little extra gift when it was mentioned that the 訂房網站 was intended for my mother’s 60th birthday.. little gestures like that is what makes it worth it for me to write behind something to remember by, and to let the team know that they were all amazing throughout the stay.
There are more to be mentioned but I will not spoil any more than I already have. Please give them a try if you want to try a ryokan experience in Kyoto!
本當にありがとうございました!^_^
