I will summarize our experience in bullet points below for quick reading:
(1) First of all, this is NOT a hotel, and is not equipped with onsite assistance. It is an apartment within a residential cluster, under someone's name. That someone dropped a case containing the keys and cards. We picked the case up from the reception. We were told not to mention "key" or "access", but " to pick up a package" left by someone named William. All communication is to be carried out with an agent based in Vietnam. In a nutshell, you must be ready to take any risk with staying at a private place that doesn't provide proper hospitality services (not sure about proper license too).
(2) Note that we were asked to send the agent in Vietnam our photographs and a copy of our passports a few days before our arrival. Feeling dodging about this arrangement, I raised personal data safety concerns with 訂房網站 as it occurred to me that our personal details were to be process and stored in Vietnam rather than in Indonesia where we visit. This further raised another concern over the due care and custody of the guests while we stay at the apartment with the understanding that there was no one on site to address requests, needs and emergency situations should they arise. After several negotiations, 訂房網站 convinced the agent to only ask for our passport numbers and names. Although this revised ask was much better than the original ask, but it felt dodgy.
(3) After picking up the package from "William", we checked into the apartment. Well, I'd say the pictures on 訂房網站 provided by the agent definitely look more appealing than the actual condition. The couch and tile floor had hair on it. The disposable slippers supposedly provided to guests were used ones. The 2nd bathroom had no hot water (not alerted or called out in the listing or ads). The kitchennet was messy. There were flies and bugs in the bedrooms. Basically the unit was generally dated, worn out and not properly cleaned.
(4) Although having booked 4 nights, we decided to move out the next day as the apartment was not an ideal place to stay (we had a kid also).
(5) I'd say this place isn't for everyone but I think to some it does carry some value for money. I booked it for $100+ SGD a night for 4 nights, and found it not quite worth the price. If you have a family with kids and senior members, or are simply cautious about physical and data safety, think twice about booking it as there are risks associated with staying at this type of private apartments with no proper hospitality services and not knowing who the actual owners of these apartments are. To make it worse, you will be sharing information and talking with someone literally in another country for all your stay matters.
