I was intent on staying away from chain hotels, and wanted to support a smaller hotel in good faith. I booked this room over a month ago, in hopes of a charming, unique stay for my birthday. My husband and I checked into the hotel and the front desk had one very friendly staff member. He gave us our key and we went up to our room. The hotel is decorated wonderfully downstairs, so I had high hopes for what our stay was gonna look like! When we entered the room, I saw two double beds, so we went back downstairs to let them know that we were in the wrong room. The front desk worker let us know that we were not in the wrong room so I showed him my reservation for one king bed. After talking for a minute, he stated that “someone had made a change to the reservation at some point” that had downgraded us from a king bed to two doubles. I asked if there was another room with a king bed or a queen bed that we could take, and he said that the hotel was entirely booked out. When I asked if we had gotten downgraded so that they could charge other guests a higher price to stay in our room, the front desk worker didn’t respond.
The surprise room downgrade felt greedy on the management/ownership front. As for the downgraded room, it had no exterior window, light fixtures were dim and missing bulbs, and there were no modern amenities. All in all, we’re usually pretty easy, so that wouldn’t have been a dealbreaker, but the bathroom was. The shower drain did not work and the bathroom smelled like sewage (probably from the plumbing being so old) but that was still manageable. The real problem was the bathroom floor. The floor had a distinct stickiness under our feet so we wiped it down, and it was black. I’ll upload photos of what came up with some rubbing and a dry towel. We put a blanket down and kept shoes on during our stay. Certain parts of the room seemed clean, others, not so much. We slept above the sheets in a double bed and left very disappointed.
Valet was INCREDIBLY kind and helpful. Heads up, if you stay here, valet is mandatory. It’s $28 plus a tip. Otherwise, you have to pay $35 to park overnight and a lot down the street with no security.

Location was great for closeness to events, but with that comes the noise of all night partying & fast cars; this is not a complaint just a heads up and they do provide earplugs.
The room was not very clean; my shoes stuck to the tile and made noise as I walked, the carpet was stained (I put my socks on and off when getting in and out of bed). The toilet stopped flushing and they did fix it quickly, so that is good. Phone in room did not have dial tone and could not get it to work. The tub filled up with water while showering so I had to turn it on and off in order to prevent it from filling up, which was super annoying. All of this would be okay for a room costing $100 a night, but this stay was nowhere near worth $600/per night, even with the cool "old time" feel. I stay in the area several times a year, but won't stay there again nor recommend it,

This is a great property, really good condition for a 100+ year old building. Great care taken to maintain the old feel of the historic stockyards. Staff was very friendly, and the restaurant and bar was great. I highly recommend.

The shutters in the room did not close completely. It was bright and difficult to sleep with the bright lights from the building across the street.
