康文特酒店 (The Convent Hotel)

シティから離れたおしゃれなところに泊まりたい人にはおすすめです。部屋の天井が高く圧迫感なくよかったけど、物を置くスペースが全然なくて少し不便でした。でも半日部屋でゆっくりしましたが居心地はよかったです。ただ階段しかないので荷物が多かったり大きいスーツケースの人は上り下り大変です！

Lovely building and ambience. Great location (close to everything yet still a super tranquil neighbourhood).

It was our first day in NZ and this hotel was a lovely surprise on a rainy day. The room was tiny as an old convent room, however well equipped, with a unique decor. The restaurant within the hotel l, Ada is also extremely good and worth to try.

Much of the hype surrounding this hotel is that it’s a former convent. Indeed from the outside it’s similar to a beautiful chapel. However once you enter, any semblance of holiness or spirituality disappears. It’s a full-on business establishment. Some of the pictures may even offend people and come across as sacrilegious. Casting aside spiritual pretensions , this is a cute boutique hotel with a Michelin award restaurant called Ada. It’s crowded even on weekdays and justifiably so with really delicious food. Only grouse is the restaurant is too dark. Many patrons had to use their phone torches to read the menu ! The noise from the restaurant is quite loud so if your room is on the ground floor next to it or on the 1F above it, you will likely be disturbed as pointed out by some reviewers. Chose a room on the 1F towards the front and you will not be disturbed. By the way when you book, the rooms come with interesting names like Nun’s reposte or Mother sister suite etc but when you are shown to your room, the rooms are just numbered. As expected of an old building , the room I was staying in ( Superior Suite) was freezing in winter. The attached heaters were barely adequate. The toilet is not heated. Room amenities are standard although slippers would be a welcomed addition in winter. Staff like Jag was very nice and friendly . Kudos to them ! Overall , a good and interesting hotel especially if unpainted walls , exposed bricks and kitschy pictures appeal to you.

We would thoroughly recommend to stay at The Convent. Great location, other dining options nearby (restaurant closed the day we stayed), such friendly staff, all the genuine architectural features of its past, relaxed atmosphere. I was a "Convent Girl" in my day and enjoyed the reminders of its past. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.
